IDS Round Up - The Best of the Best!
The Interior Design Show (IDS) wrapped up on Sunday and this year’s show was nothing short of spectacular! So many new and innovative products, artisans and suppliers – both local and abroad. As a designer, I tend to source from tried and true suppliers, as I am familiar with their work, product and customer service. That’s why I love the IDS - not only can you see and touch new products for yourself, but you get to meet and engage with the people who make the company a success.
My initial intent for this post was going to focus on emerging trends, however, after seeing so all this great work, I had to highlight these (mostly Canadian) trailblazers.
1. Locus Vie - I have been looking for the perfect kitchen floor mat for months. I wanted something waterproof, heat resistant, wipeable and visually stunning - so when I saw these floor mats I knew I hit the jackpot! With patterned tiles all the rage right now, these are the perfect choice for any contemporary and modern space.
The mats are 100% PVC and hypoallergenic. Hidraulik is the product brand and it is designed & manufactured in Barcelona, Spain. Locus Vie is the importer for North America and IDS was the official Canadian launch. You can view the gorgeous floor and tabletop line both online and at Style Garage in Toronto.
2. Fine & Dandy Co - Is a Canadian wall covering company. Inspired by the vintage, iconic genres that still dazzle after decades. These regal coverings are available in 20oz commercial grade Type II certified vinyl, and a 15 oz Eco-Friendly version. The vibrant designs are strong, durable, and washable - Yes washable!! Great not only for commercial dwellings, but residential homes with high traffic, pets and kids – Genius!
3. 1925 Workbench – was my absolute favorite exhibitor at IDS this year! Founded by Toronto husband and wife team Rock Huynh and My Le Nguyen in 2012. 1925 Workbench, design and manufacture the most alluring doors, rolling ladders and custom furniture in the market. With a variety of materials to choose from, you can customize the product to fit your needs and style. From panel, slab and reclaimed barnboard style doors, to hardware choices in raw steel, brassy beau (my favorite) and spooky stainless – the options are endless! The display at IDS showcased a barn door wrapped in a funky palm tree paper by Kate Golding – honestly – that door is EVERYTHING!! Wallpapered sliding door, with Brass Tracks!! What more could a girl want?
4. Samantha Sandbrook – is a Toronto based artist creating whimsical designs. This stunning wall art is inspired by Oscar Wilde’s irreverent writing and his kiss-mark and graffiti-laden tombstone in the historic Pere Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. These perfect brass and acrylic circles are a paradox made from industrial parts. Paired with the Imagine Console Table, this hand-painted functional sculpture console is made of wood and brass, for ultimate sophistication.
5. Kroft - Is a solid wood furniture company, manufactured north of Toronto, in Vaughan. In 2014, Dustin Kroft set up his first wood shop and built his inaugural collection which debuted at Toronto's own Interior Design Show. Today, KROFT operates as a dynamic studio that designs and manufactures furniture for both commercial and residential environments. Their floating drawers and hanging rod is minimalists dream.
